STONE SOUP STORYTELLING FESTIVAL, APRIL 29-30, WOODRUFF, SC
The Official Storytelling Festival of South Carolina
STONE SOUP is a two-day festival celebrating the oral tradition of storytelling.
Beginning Friday morning, a host of storytellers will envelop students from Spartanburg District 4 schools into the world of storytelling.
Events for the public begin on Friday, April 29, at noon with storyteller, Ellouise Schoettler
hosting the Senior Luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church in Woodruff.
From 3:00-4:00pm, storytellers will gather at the Woodruff Community Center for a roundtable discussion on the future of storytelling, media and marketing.
The Friday evening fare begins at 5:00pm with Storyteller- Flute Maker, Hawk Hurst, drawing you into the dreamkeeper with music in the Woodruff Library Reading Park. A Stone Soup Supper begins at 5:30pm followed by free Ghost Stories. BOO! (Better bring a friend and a chair or a blanket!).
Saturday, April 30, is an entire day of tales and entertainment beginning at 9:30am with the character parade, a puppet show and coffee at the Timrod Library (a designated local historic site).
You may laugh, cry, sigh and giggle and say, “Amen”, at the all day storytelling by nationally recognized and locally acclaimed storytellers in the historic Woodruff High School auditorium. On the bill are the Storycrafters, Ellousie Schoettler, Slash Coleman, Hawk Hurst, Chetter Galloway, Judy Seeley, Linda Stout, and our own storyteller and one of the founders of the Stone Soup Storytelling Festival, Dixie Page. I love a parade! Be your favorite character and join us, 9:30am at the Timrod Library. Storytelling begins at 10:30am in the auditorium. Children will enjoy a puppet show and interactive puppet workshop with puppeteer, Becky Becker. Don’t miss your chance to “tell” at the amateur “story swap” competition with prizes at the Woodruff Community Center. The Carolina Foothills Artisan Center is bringing artwork from SC/NC artisans. Great food at local restaurants.
Two new events- the “Kate Barry, She’s Revolutionary” 5K Run. Put on your “dancin’”- I mean your “runnin’ shoes”. We are planning the inaugural “Kate Barry, She’s Revolutionary” 5k run through the streets of Woodruff. “Jimmie’s Creek” Cycling Cup and Challenge. Bring your bicycle- we’ll peddle out at 9:00am- and tour some historic areas in southern Spartanburg County. Walnut Grove Plantation and the Price House are nearby. The festival concludes on Saturday, April 30, with the Grand Finale beginning at 5:30pm in the historic Woodruff High School auditorium. You can’t miss this!
